  • For those on the standard course, you will get 8 hot seats each with 15 minutes on the hot seat and 10 minutes of feedback (On the Standard Course). You will observe a further 24 vivas of other candidates on the hot seats over the 4 days.
  • For those on the observer course, you will be observing a total of 32 vivas over the course of the 4 days

The viva cases will be presented to candidates on Zoom where the candidates will be given links to the examiners' case folders for them to scroll through in real time. The session will run to closely simulate the actual examination experience with 15 minutes of viva presentation followed by 10 minutes of feedback. When you are not down for a viva session you will be doing Long Case and Rapid Reporting Packets.  At the end of each day, there will be a session discussing the packets (2 packets per day). Candidates will use the Revise Radiology website to access the mock written packets and this will be done live so as to reflect the examination.

The recordings of observer sessions as well as the Written Review Sessions will be available for you for a week following the course.

Written Packets

The written packets are done when you are not down for vivas and this is an opportunity to do 8 sets of rapid reporting and long case packets (2 each day) in such a way that it simulates the examination conditions. We expect that candidates aim to complete a long case packet in 70 minutes and a rapid reporting packet in 30 minutes. Candidates will use the Revise Radiology website where they will get access to the mock exam packets and this will be done live so as to reflect the examination. There will also be 4 sessions of discussions covering all the packets.

Vivas

Here's what you can expect on the course;

You will get a total of 8 viva sessions during which you will get to see a wide variety of cases. On the Standard course, you get 8 hot seats  each lasting 15 minutes and followed by 10 minutes of feedback. When you are not in the hot seat, you will be observing other candidates on the hot seats. This is a great opportunity to learn how other candidates present and also the feedback they receive from examiners.

The Cases are presented to candidates on Postdicom using Zoom where the candidates will be given links to the examiners' case folders for them to scroll through in real time. The session will run to closely simulate the actual examination experience with 15 minutes of viva presentation followed by 10 minutes of feedback. The selected set of examiners includes experienced as well as new FRCR examiners. This means that the viva packets they use are of a similar standard to the FRCR examinations.

South West FRCR

The South West (Bristol) FRCR Course was started in 2008 by Koshy Jacob (then a 4th year registrar) as a small project to help fund computers and books for the Registrars Room at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. We have grown steadily for the past 10 years always taking into account feedback received from delegates and consultants, both on content and design to become one of the most sought after FRCR courses in the UK.

The aim of the course right from the beginning has been to create the best FRCR course available. We have always been keen to give amazing value. We were one of the first courses in the UK to be authenticated to give examiners CPD points. We were also the first course to ensure that our examiners were giving the best value by their being assessed by an assessor to make sure their style of examining and their cases were of the highest possible quality.

It has been our aim to connect with our delegates (and in general with the Radiology Community) and, presented by a variety of consultants, we have been running webinars on teaching topics for the FRCR 2B examinations.
